Southampton Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA)

Constitution / Rules


1. That the name of the Association be SOUTHAMPTON LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION and that its object be to foster the game of lawn tennis in Southampton and District and to organise competitions to be played in accordance with the rules and regulations, so far as applicable, of the National Lawn Tennis Association

2. That membership be limited to bona-fide Lawn Tennis Clubs, subject to the approval of member Clubs

3. There will be an Affiliation Fee. Any Club entering more than one team in the Apsley League or the Winter League will pay an additional fee per team. Fees with be at the discretion of the Committee. Affiliation fees to be paid on or before the 15 February each year.

4. That the officers consist of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and a committee of 12, all to be elected at the Annual General Meeting. The appointment of a President and Vice-President may be made at the discretion of the Annual General Meeting

5. The Annual General Meeting to appoint an Honorary Auditor to audit the accounts of the Association. The person elected will not be a member of the Committee, nor hold any other office in the Association

6. That the Annual General Meeting be held not later than the end of December each year, when a statement of accounts for the past 12 months ended 30 September, shall be submitted. Each affiliated Club must be represented and shall be entitled to one vote. An Extraordinary General Meeting may be held at the request of not less than one third of the member Clubs

7. That members of affiliated Clubs not having paid their subscriptions to their Club for the past season, shall be debarred from taking part in any event of competition organised by the Southampton Lawn Tennis Association, or any of its affiliated Clubs, until these arrears have been paid off

8. Proposals from member Clubs of alterations or additions to these Rules, must be given in writing to the Honorary Secretary by 31 October of any year

9. By the 1 January each year, the Association Secretary will advise all affiliated Clubs of the dates of the Southampton Senior and Junior Tournaments so that they can avoid organising Club Tournaments on those dates. The Committee will have the power to disaffiliate any Club that does not comply with this rule

10. It is mandatory for each affiliated Club to ensure the attendance of at least one representative at the Annual General Meeting of the Southampton Lawn Tennis Association if they wish to enter teams in any league run by the Association during the following 12 months. No attendee of the Annual General Meeting shall be entitled to represent more than one affiliated club

11. The Association shall adopt a disciplinary procedure closely based on Appendix 3 to the LTA Rules, as set out in the LTA's annual Official Handbook. In particular a Disciplinary Sub-Committee shall be formed for the purpose of conducting the procedure outlined in Section 3 of Appendix 3 to the LTA Rules

12. Officials administering the various competitions run by the Association shall report serious breaches of conduct, or documented procedure governing a competition, to the Disciplinary Committee. The Committee shall apply the disciplinary procedure and impose penalties where deemed appropriate. The range of penalties stated in Section 4 of Appendix 3 to the LTA Rules shall be available to the Committee
